Fiber To The Office (FTTO)
Optical fibers allow higher data rates and longer link lenghts than copper cables. Fiber optic cabling that runs up to the workplace is recognized by more than one cabling standard. Read on to find out more.
As multimode fibers allow link lenghts of several hundred meters and singlemode fibers of even several kilometers, work spaces can be cabled with fiber optic cables directly from one central building distributor. This eliminates the need for large floor distributors and the dedicated rooms that go with it.
The cabling structure using fiber optic cables up to the workplace (Fiber To The Office, FTTO) is recognized as „combined backbone/horizontal channel“ by the following cabling standards:
- In office premises: ISO/IEC 11801-2:2017-11, chapter 8.3.3
- In industrial premises: ISO/IEC 11801-3:2017-11, chapter 5.3.5
- For distributed building services: ISO/IEC 11801-6:2017-11, annex C, chapter C.2.2
