What are hex adapters?

What are hex adapters and what’s the difference between duplex, quad and hex?
Answer: Hex adapters accept six fibers which is typically done by accepting three duplex connectors. The term comes from the Greek word “hexa” meaning “six”. Duplex adapters accept two fibers (two simplex connectors or one duplex connector), quad adapters accept four fibers (four simplex connectors or two duplex connectors or a combination thereof).
