White paper “Standard-compliant Cabling for 25 Gigabit Ethernet“
Does the cabling for 25 Gigabit Ethernet have to transmit only frequencies up to 1250 MHz? Can category 6A outlets be used for 25 Gigabit Ethernet in case they have an appropriate headroom, maybe together with category 8 horizontal cable? There are a number of different opinions and statements regarding 25 Gigabit Ethernet and many are at least partly incorrect. This white paper addresses the technical requirements and standards’ specifications of cabling infrastructures for 25 Gigabit Ethernet and discusses the relevant standards in detail.
ISO/IEC 11801-1 and EN 50173-1 demand Class I or Class II cabling for 25 Gigabit Ethernet 25GBASE-T. Class I channels consist of category 8.1 components or even higher, class II channels consist of category 8.2 components.
ISO/IEC TR 11801-9905 is a guide to evaluate whether legacy cabling can transmit 25GBASE-T and clearly points out that this applies to legacy cabling only, not for new cabling.
This white paper focuses on the technical and standard’s requirements for standard-compliant cabling for 25 Gigabit Ethernet and discusses the relevant standards in detail.
