Why are there no RJ45 connectors of category 7 and 7A, but of category 8.1?

Questions

RJ45 connectors of category 8.1 do not meet the requirements of category 7 and 7A. Why?

Answer: Some of the requirements of categories 7 and 7A go far beyond those of category 8.1. Category 8.1 is based on Category 6A, whose frequency range has been extended to 2,000 MHz. In particular, the requirements for near-end crosstalk attenuation (NEXT) are much higher for category 7 and 7A than for category 8.1, so that as of today, RJ45 connectors of category 8.1 also meet the requirements of categories 5, 6 and 6A, but not those of categories 7 and 7A.

Nobody can know everything. And especially in a field as extensive as IT cabling, questions are bound to arise in practice. In this section, we answer questions that have been put to the Telegärtner Technical Helpdesk and that are of interest to everyone. Send us your questions, we will be happy to answer them. The questions will of course be published anonymously.
