The RJ45 has come a long way. Originally designed as a plug and jack for telecommunications, it now transmits data rates of up to 10 gigabits per second in a frequency range of 1 to 500 MHz. Only a modern and fully automatic system can guarantee the permanent and consistent high quality required when producing high quantities.

The demand for higher and higher data rates impacts equally on development, design, production and quality control. Bucking the widespread trend of outsourcing production or assembly work to countries where labour is cheap, Telegärtner prefers to stick with the established "Made in Germany" quality.
The strategy of concentrating all the key divisions in one location in Germany has proved effective time and time again. For example, Telegärtner's printed circuit board-based LSA+ connection components were the first in the world to be certified as conforming to ISO/IEC Category 6A by the independent GHMT test laboratory.

High degree of flexibility through automation

Telegärtner was quick to opt for fully automatic production. RJ45 jacks with 90-degree and 45-degree cable outlet, shielded and unshielded, for use in data outlet, mini distributors, patch panels, feedthrough panels, T-adaptors ... - the list goes on. The various machines can make more than 800 modules per hour. They are flexible and intelligent, with the ability to combine loose goods, conveyed goods and magazine stacks. And naturally even the printed circuit board assembly is fully automatic.

One major plus point in terms of quality control is that the production processes are monitored and documented throughout the assembly process. This is particularly important with Power over Ethernet (PoE) where terminal devices also need to be supplied with power via the data cable (and therefore via the RJ45 jack).


Quality assured through planning ahea

The more powerful version PoE+ can involve currents of up to 600 mA. Therefore, if the plug is pulled out through oversight or ignorance, the break spark has sufficient energy to damage the sensitive contacts on an RJ45 connector.

Telegärtner builds the necessary precautions into the design, separating the area in which the break spark originates from the contact point for the data and power transmission. A Telegärtner jack works perfectly even if devices are unplugged 800 times during operation.

The same applies to the patented built-in contact protector. If someone plugs a telephone or fax with RJ11 or RJ12 connectors into an RJ45 jack, for example, the RJ45 contacts will not be damaged.
