Calculator: Reflexion behavior

Note:

Reflection in coaxial connectors is measured by the return loss, the coefficient of reflection or the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).
These three amounts in relation to each other can be calculated with our online calculator.
Enter one amount in the relevant box in order to calculate the other two.

Reflection behavior

The return loss alpha is the logarithm of the coefficient of reflection r: The return loss alpha is the logarithm of the coefficient of reflection r:

alpha = -20log(r)

The coefficient of reflection r is calculated from the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) s as follows:

r = (s-1) / (s+1)

The voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) s is linked to the coefficient of reflection r as follows:

s = (1+r) / (1-r)
