Many different components are used for connections in mobile communication networks: from coaxial connectors, jumper cables and surge protection to RJ45 plugs, patch cables, FO connectors and cables. Telegärtner groups the components for Mobile Radio Base Stations, FTTA, Microwave Links, Backhaul/IP as well as In-Building Wireless/DAS under the title “Mobile Communication Solutions”.
Classic transmission of RF signals over coaxial cables
Transmission and reception signals are transmitted by carrier frequencies between 700 MHz and 2.7 GHz, depending on the mobile radio generation and network. Low-attenuation corrugated cables of different diameters are used to minimise the attenuation losses between the base station and the antenna. Typically, these corrugated cables are dimensioned 1/2", 7/8", 1 1/4" and 1 5/8". Telegärtner offers matching connectors of the SIMFix® series suitable for these cables. The SIMFix® CA connectors were developed especially for 7/8" cables. They are designed for use with cables with either copper or aluminium outer conductors. In addition to their excellent electrical performance in regard to return loss and passive intermodulation, they also guarantee resistance to ambient influences thanks to a three-stage sealing concept. This imperviousness to outdoor influences is also invaluable in such applications.
Which coaxial components are also used in mobile communication networks can be found in "Solutions for Mobile Communications".
Combined signal transmission by fiber optic cables and coaxial cables
Signal transmission using fiber optic cables is becoming increasingly important with the increasing use of Remote Radio Heads (RRH). Here, a digital signal is transmitted from the base station to the RRH by a fiber optic cable. The digital signal is converted into an RF signal with the appropriate carrier frequencies in the RRH. The RF signal is then transmitted over the last few metres to the antennas by corrugated coaxial cables (jumper cables). Telegärtner offers the suitable FO outer cables, connectors and distributor boxes for transmission over FO cables.
Fiber optic components are also essential for use in mobile communications networks. You can find out more about this in "Solutions for Mobile Communications".
Data transmission within the base station
Since the RF signal is generated outside the base station when using Remote Radio Heads, twisted-pair and fiber optic cables are generally used for the data transmission inside the base station. For example, connection components in RJ45 technology or FO connectors with SC inter-faces are commonly used.
Within its wide range of connecting components for structured cabling, Telegärtner also offers numerous products which are ideal for use in base stations. In our new Mobile Radio brochure you will, therefore, find a broad selection of RJ45 plugs, patch cords, patch panels, FO connectors and distributor boxes as well as preassembled FO cables, all tailor-made for use in mobile radio base stations.
But RJ45 and FO cabling components are not only used in Mobile Radio Base Stations, but also for mobile communication networks in buildings, backhaul cabling or also for microwave links. You can find more information of the possibilities in "Solutions for Mobile Communications".
