Connect wires to LSA+ connecting blocks fast and particularly reliably

20.11.2023 | It sometimes happens that wires slip out of IDC contacts although everything looked fine. This issue shows a simple and proven trick how to connect wires fast and particularly reliably to LSA+ contacts.

Time pressure on construction sites is always high, especially for electricians and IT cabling installers as they very often have to wait until other crafts have finished their work before being able to start working themselves.

When wires are being connected under time pressure it might well happen that they are not fully seated in the IDC contact and slip out of it after some time. An easy and proven trick for fast and at the same time particularly reliable way of connecting the wires is to press the punch-down tool twice for every contact. This takes less than half a second longer per contact but it makes sure the wire is connected properly. Why is that so? The mechanism of the punch-down tool is triggered to release when a certain pre-defined force is reached. Should the mechanism already be in a position near the trigger point when the tool is used, it might well happen that the release is triggered before the full force is reached and the wire is pressed completely into the IDC contact. This is a well-known phenomenon when using torque wrenches, and so professional mechanics press the torque wrench twice when fastening wheel bolts. Costs hardly extra time but is much more reliable.
