Right down: Parellel presser and pipe wrench

04.09.2023 | Why would you buy a parellel presser when you already have a pipe wrench? The answer is easy: You are quality-conscious. 

Good old pipe wrench is used on countless construcion sites. In IT cabling it is often used to press the two halves of RJ45 modules togther. However he (or she) who puts emphasis on quality should leave the pipe wrench in the tool box and use a parellel presser instead. Why? It’s because the two halves of an RJ45 module shall be pressed straight – meaning in parallel direction – togehter. Only then one can be sure that the wires are pressed into the insulation displacement contacts (IDCs) or the insulation piercing contacts are pressed into the wire respectively in the way they should. A pipe wrench does not press straight but in a rotating move. This not only affects the connecting of the wires. The rotation causes shear forces that put lateral stress on the IDS or IPCs which leads to tension and poor contact.

Anyone who sets value on high-quality craftmanship uses a parallel presser. It is available in different versions and at different prices. It is not really expensive and when being treated well it will last for a lifetime.
