Why are RJ45 modules installed upside down in sloped faceplates?

05.01.2024 | Many RJ45 modules have their component category like “Cat.6A“ printed on the front. Why are they installed with the printing upside down in sloped faceplates? Read on to find out why.

Answer: RJ45 modules are installed in 19“ patch panels with the latch of the RJ45 plug facing downwards. By this, an RJ45 plug can be easly unlocked using the index finger. The printing on the RJ45 modules can be read properly.

In sloped faceplates the RJ45 module has to be orientated with the latch of the RJ45 plug facing upwards. Would it face downwards, it could not be pressed and the plug could not be unlocked. Because of this, the module is installed “upside down“. The fact that the printing is also upside down doesn’t really matter much as it is hardly visible due to the sloped faceplate anyway.

Nobody knows everything. A comprehensive topic like IT cabling inevitably raises questions. This column gives answers to questions which reached Telegärtner’s Technical Helpdesk and which we consider interesting for everyone. Please do not hesitate to send us your questions, we will be happy to answer them. The questions will be published anonymously, of course.
